Black Templars Marshal WIP

I found a Terminator model, half assembled and missing his bolter arm and head. Managed to scrounge together some parts as I wanted a Templar Marshal in Terminator armor. All my current Templar leaders are in power armor. So this would give the Templar leadership some much needed protection ;)

I did some painting last night and here he is. I really wanted the armaments of Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield but I have no bitz left for those. So I just ran with what I got, which isn't too bad. A Storm Bolter provides some firepower while the Chainfist does give some reliable anti-tank in melee.

Side view. Probably going to paint a red Templar Cross on this shoulder pad later. I chose the gold for his storm bolter as this seems to be the color for the BT elites.

A clearer view of the Chainfist. I painted the Templar cross on the background. Also added the chevrons on the chain-blade attachment.

I went with simple application of white with his cloak, which I will try out as an Adamantine Mantle. This will give him slightly longer lasting power instead of being doubled out.

I really love graphic novels and have always followed comics like Iron Man (my first superhero), Maxx (Image), X-Men and X-Factor. I even followed up with World of Warcraft in 2008 during the WoW days!

This was Direct Only so I sent through an order 2 weeks ago. Finally received it this week.

WIP: Necron Tomb Blades & Magnets

After painting up my first wave of Necron Warriors I had been booged down with work and just couldn't make time for the hobby. However with the much anticipated March School term break I made  myself fix up the many Necrons I bought for this years 40k painting project. Other than these boxes here I already have 40 warriors, a ghost ark and a unit of Destroyers.

I decided to built up the Tomb Blades first as I really like the models and they looked fairly simple and uncomplicated (boy was I dead wrong). 

Started with the main structure and all was relatively straight forward, then I got to the part where causes the most problems for me. Wargear. You see I'm not much of a gamer, I collect and paint up my models 90% of the time. With the remaining 10% or less on actual gaming. But I like to build up my armies "game legal". So WYSIWYG is very important to me, as well as choosing the correct wargear to arm the miniatures with. I don't want a unit I painstakingly painted up to be totally useless in the game (should I ever get around playing with them). 

Then the nightmare begins, it's been quite awhile since I touched GW models, and I was rudely reminded that GW kits are so detailed that it would require millions of parts for a model. Even the most basic exhaust pipe came in two parts! Guess I've been pampered by Flames of War and Dust warfare the past year or so that suddenly multi-part kits seem so daunting! Little did I expect to spend the entire afternoon just putting these guys together, gosh.....

Well after putting together 55475869 pieces of plastic together to finally form the miniature I went on with thinking about how to magnetize the guns for the Tomb Blades. As the joints were not slot in or simple snap ons I had to do a little cutting to make the magnets fit. Fortunately this was not too difficult.

All the weapons with the magnets nicely slotted in.

Weapons easily swapped out yay!

Now on to my next kit, the Wraiths. Hope it will be easier.......

Looks like Tau are getting a dose of love next month. I gotta say I am loving the look of that large walker. It's fooooooooking large! Maybe it is time to whip out my Gundams. I'll let you guys enjoy the pics.

Batrep: Dust Warfare 300AP Axis vs Axis

Our local Dust Warfare group is organizing a 300AP tournament this April 7th, Sunday at Battle Bunker which is located at Funan.

It has been awhile since I played this game with my 40k craze so I whipped up a 300AP list, bought a few more units and deployed it with Abby (Abdullah). He is bringing 300AP too. 

I went for a far more heavy infantry list than Abby who brought in 2 Medium Walkers and 3 units of Apes with Markus. A nasty nasty list for sure. It was certainly competitive but I welcome it. 

We bid for the deployment type which is the 9" zones. The mission was one from the Hades book which is what our tournament is based on. At the end of the game you get points equivalent to the number of wounds of units within 12" of the mid-point of the table (i.e. the Space Marine's bald head).

Kept my Snipers on the roof levels and hid the rest of my men hidden behind terrain or in area terrain.

I didn't manage to take too many pictures for this game as I was still trying to get back into Dust Warfare. I hope the pictures above entertained you at least!

My list still struggles in the shooting game at the moment. I am planning to reshuffle my units to benefit more from the Platoon Orders as well.

WIP - Custom Build Delta Gundam (hyaku shiki) - working with enamels & airbrush

I'm alive guys... Sorry for being gone for more than 1/2 a year. Been focusing on a few areas of personal growth and just didn't have the stomach for warhammer/scale models. Thanks to a few friends who knocked some sense into me and told me I shouldn't give up on what I like doing. I spoke to enrgie about my hiatus with warhammer.

I will instead try to focus on modeling techniques/custom builds. I'm sure some of these techniques can be migrated to painting tabletop minis as well. Sorry if the spacing of this is all messed up...

1. for doing metallics, use Mr. surfacer 1000-1500 as a primer. the higher grit means smoother the surface and thus the final top layer will be more reflective. This is the grey paint u see on the completed model

2. (airbrush) for golds, I used a rose gold/copper color as the foundation. I then worked on successive layers of clear yellow mixed with a 1:8 ratio of fluorescent pink. Reason for this is the fluorescent pink gives the gold an extra bite. That tiny bit of fluorescent pink makes the final surface stand out much more than without it.

Tips: -when working with airbrush and enamels (oil based paints)you must add thinner into the vile first followed by color. The paint mixes better this way. -paint consistency should be similar to milk, to easily mix paints, turn your airbrush pump to .5lbs PSI, hold you finger over the nozzle to form an airseal, depress the trigger and you will hear the paint bubble inside. Do this for about 1 min. Metallic paints tend to need more time to fully mix.

 -NEVER AIRBRUSH ENAMEL PAINTS ON A HUMID DAY!!! you nozzle will spray out spider webs if too humid.
